The Indiana Pacers are currently on a five game winning streak. Their overall record now stands at 10-6 after beating Orlando in their mini two game series. The last time the Pacers had such a long winning streak was from Jan. 10, 2020 to Jan. 20, 2020. Their next game is tonight at home against Minnesota, with tip at 7:00 p.m. ET.
If the Pacers win, they have a six-game winning streak. And the last time they had a six-game winning streak was from February 2, 2019 to February 13, 2019. Minnesota now has its own four-game winning streak. Both teams are hot. However, there are reasons to believe that this winning streak and other future winning streaks for Indiana are sustainable.
A young team that is gaining valuable experience
You tend to see young teams making inexperienced mistakes that cost them victories. For example, poor clock management, trying to win the game in one go, or inability to complete hard-fought battles. This inexperience is particularly emphasized in one-possession games.
However, the Pacers are currently 2-2 in these one possession games. And if you look at these specific instances where Myles Turner has been active, they’re 2-1. There will be more to come about Turner’s influence. Going back to the team’s performance in close games, the opponents the Pacers faced in those games is something to consider.
They split against two playoff-proven teams, Denver and Miami. And they split against two young teams who are rebuilding, San Antonio and Orlando. If Turner had been available for the San Antonio game, the outcome might have been different, but I digress. This young Pacers team is gaining valuable experience that will help them in the future.

The presence of Myles Turner
As previously mentioned, Turner missed a few games. In fact, he missed the first four at the start of the season and wasn’t back to his normal workload until the second game against Washington. Regardless, he’s currently achieving top career averages in several categories.
Since returning from his ankle injury, the Pacers have won 9-3. The score was 3-1 during his missed time at the start of the season. Well, this is certainly a small sample size, but you still have to play against the teams on schedule.
There are lots of statistics on this underpin its importance and value.
|recording||points for||points against|
|When Turner isn’t playing||2-3||119.2||120.4|
|When Turner plays||8-3*||115.7||111.2|
*He didn’t play in the first game against Brooklyn.
One reason for the drastic change in defense is due to Turner’s ability to block or change shots. He’s currently averaging three blocks per game, which is the second-highest rate of his career. And he has a streak of 31 consecutive games with at least one block. Those skills and his presence are very important to the Pacers.

The stars of the Indiana Pacers do what they’re supposed to
One of the main reasons this team is so successful is that its main players do what they are supposed to do. Now don’t twist it, the rest of the team contributes as well. However, the guys like Turner, Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin and Jalen Smith are doing the heavy lifting and setting their teammates up for success.
In the 16 games they played, the above players were the leaders of the Pacers.
- Haliburton and Mathurin are the leading scorers 10x
- Turner and Jalen Smith are the leading rebounders 10x
- Haliburton leads 15x with assists
These players were the most reliable players for the team. Opposing defenses are game planning for these guys and allow other players to have unexpectedly big games. For example, Aaron Nesmith’s 19-point blast against Orlando, Buddy Hield’s three games as top scorer, Chris Duarte’s 30-point game against Brooklyn, and TJ McConnell’s double-double against Orlando.
Unfortunately, this winning streak will eventually come to an end. Regardless of when that’s the case, the bottom line is that it wasn’t a fluke. At some point in the season, this team will be back on a winning streak. The talent in this squad exceeds initial expectations and that alone gives fans reason to celebrate.
