Homer center swimmers set team bests
The Homer Center swim teams earned high-season scores Monday at a high school meet against Tyrone at the IUP’s Pidgeon Natatorium.
The Homer Center Girls achieved a 100-42 win and lost 101-37.
The girls won 10 out of 11 events. Grace Frazer won the 50m freestyle and 500m freestyle, Julia King won the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke, Morgan Nagy won the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, and Ava King took first place in the 200m individual medley and 100m Butterfly. The neighborhood also teamed up to win the 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle relay.
Landon Shoup led the boys with a first place in the 500m freestyle and a second place in the 200m individual medley. Oshen Maratita was second in the 100 backstroke. The Wildcats also finished second in the 200m medley and 400m freestyle relay.
Homer Center, a first-year program, continues to see improvement. The swimmers cut their times together by more than four minutes. Sally Paegons cut his 100 freestyle by 28.57 seconds and Levi Loose cut his 100 breaststroke by 14.66 seconds.

Marion Center Sweep Sweep Meet
MARION CENTER — Marion Center defeated Richland, 112-46 with the girls and Marion Center 83-59 with the boys, in a high school swim meet on Monday.
The Marion Center girls won 11 events. In individual events, Marion Center won the 500m freestyle behind Maggie Shadle, Mikayla Gatskie and Audrey Farmery), the 100m backstroke behind Rachel Fox, Farmery and Lilly Schultz) and the 100m breaststroke behind Shadle, Paige Reaugh and Katelyn Reaugh).
Marion Center finished 1-2 in 5 events: 200m Freestyle with Gatskie and Katelyn Reaugh), 200m Medley with Nicole Scott and Schultz), 100m Butterfly with Scott and Fox) and 100m Freestyle with Ella Wells and Mylene Buffone . Wells also won the 50 freestyle.
The Stingrays also won two relays, with Farmery, Shadle, Fox and Emily Reaugh teaming in the 200m individual medley and Scott, Emily Reaugh, Wells and Gatskie in the 400m freestyle.
At the boys’ meet, Marion Center’s Mason Mantini, Paul Smith, Alek Vaglia and AJ Lynn teamed up to win the 200 medley relay. Vaglia, Lynn and Carson Wells each finished 1-2-3 in the 500m freestyle, and Paul Smith won the 100m breaststroke and Alek Vaglia was second.
The Marion Center welcomes Altoona today.
Indiana drops gun match
Indiana lost Tuesday in a WPIAL rifle match to Butler, 798-59x to 776-34x.
Freshman Rylee Warfel led Indiana by 99-6x.
Indiana (1-5) visits Woodland Hills on Thursday.
