What you need to know for Saturday’s games

– Jim McCormick & Kyle Soppe

Deep Six: The Sixers suffered another major backcourt injury last night when Tyrese Maxey rolled his ankle in a win over the Bucks. Two-way guard De’Anthony Melton is a free agent in nearly 87% of ESPN leagues while ranking fourth in the league in steal percentage and likely having the rare freedom to score with Maxey. Scoring guard Shake Milton hit a season-high 12 shots in a win over the Bucks last night and could be busy tonight against a Timberwolves team that concedes the point guards nearly 54 DraftKings points per game, the third-highest clip in the league.

Magical Men: Just ahead of Bam Adebayo, Domantas Sabonis and Evan Mobley among centers in the Player Rater, Orlando’s Bol Bol (56% available in ESPN leagues) is setting up one of the most memorable climbs in a while. Bol is a staple of the Magic rotation, ranking fourth in the league in blocks per game and first in block percentage. Bol has been particularly prolific lately, averaging 15.8 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.4 3PG, and 1.6 BPG over the last five games, all starts. With Paolo Banchero struggling with an ankle injury, Bol is ready to deliver another big line against the Pacers tonight. Orlando guard Jalen Suggs (37%) heats up after scoring seven points in the team’s finals in a clutch win over Chicago last night.

Keep Paceo: Speaking of Pacers, Jalen Smith (59% available) has averaged almost a double-double (11.6 PPG and 9.2 RPG) in his last five games and last night surpassed just 30 minutes of action for the first time in November, what to a season high 18 boards. Starting for Indiana, Smith and rookie guard Andrew Nembhard (99%) provide helpful DFS rebates during a slate featuring some high-paying Superstars like Joel Embiid and Damian Lillard.

Microwave Malik: In its deep rotation, the Utah Jazz often seeks out different names to improve on specific tracks. Of late, goaltender Malik Beasley (59% available) has been the team’s microwave, posting a season-high 27 in last night’s win over the Suns. Beasley is free to find his shot and will likely play around 30 minutes. He’s a fun streaming option and a target to score props against the Sixers tonight.

Mr Young: The Raptors ruled out forwards Precious Achiuwa, Pascal Siakam, Otto Porter Jr. and Chris Boucher ahead of today’s game against the Hawks in Atlanta. The team will likely look to veteran Thaddeus Young (98% available in ESPN leagues) for prime playing time on the starting lineup, as the veteran has surpassed 26 minutes in three consecutive minutes and can help fantasy streamers who look for rebounds and steals. After all, Young has averaged 11 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 1.7 SPG over the past three games and should be running 30 minutes tonight.

game of the night

Utah Jazz with the Portland Trail Blazers
7:30 p.m. ET, Moda Center, Portland

line: Blazers -4
money line: Jazz (+143), Blazers (-170)
In total: 228.5 points

Excluded: Rudy Gay, Gary Payton II, Keon Johnson, Nassir Little

Best bet: Jazz +4

Utah pulled off an impressive win over the Suns in overtime on Friday night. While the Jazz might not win outright against the Trail Blazers, I think they’ll play well enough to keep the game tight. Utah ranks fourth in points scored per 100 ball possessions and fourth in offensive rebounds. Additionally, the Jazz ranks seventh in 3-point percentage. Though Utah is a tough team to beat, the Trail Blazers are no pushovers either. The Trail Blazers play much slower than the Jazz and rank sixth in points allowed per 100 possessions. Utah’s advantage in this game will be defending the perimeter, which will be crucial when it comes to containing Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons. If the Jazz scores more than 107.7, they are 10-4 against the spread. This season, the Trail Blazers are letting opponents score 107.6 points per game. — Eric Moody

Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks
6 p.m. ET, State Farm Arena, Atlanta

line: Falcons -5.5
money line: Raptors (+175), Falcons (-210)
In total: 226 points

Excluded: Dalano Banton, Pascal Siakam, Otto Porter Jr., Chris Boucher, Gary Trent Jr., Bogdan Bogdanovic

Best Bet: Over 226

It just makes sense to bet on the over. In terms of points scored per 100 possessions, the Raptors are 12th and the Hawks 19th, although Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are capable of scoring a lot. The total has been exceeded in nine of Atlanta’s last 13 games. Also, four of the last five games between the Raptors and the Hawks have been in Atlanta. — Moody

Fantasy Streamer: De’Andre Hunter (listed in 16.5% of ESPN leagues) is a great streamer in dot formats. He averaged 19.9 fantasy points in 30.2 MPG. Despite scoring double-digit goals in all 14 games for Atlanta, Hunter has yet to top six boards, four assists, or a steal. It’s not the best option in category formats. — Moody

Orlando Magic at the Indiana Pacers
7 p.m. ET, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis

line: pacemaker -6.5
money line: Magic (+205), Pacer (-250)
In total: 223.5 points

Questionable: Wendell Carter Jr., Gary Harris, Tyrese Haliburton

Excluded: Moritz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Paolo Banchero, and Chris Duarte

Best bet: pacemaker -6.5

Bennedict Mathurin and Tyrese Haliburton have been driving the Pacers’ offense so far. Indiana ranks 11th in points scored per 100 possessions. Things aren’t looking so rosy on the defensive end. In terms of points allowed per 100 possessions, the Pacers rank 20th. There hasn’t been much offensive performance from the Magic this season, and the team may be without dynamic rookie Paolo Banchero. Orlando is ranked 22nd in points made per 100 possessions this season and has not been strong on defense. The Pacers have a 7-1 record against the spread if they score more than 112.9 points. — Moody

Fantasy Streamer: Chuma Okeke (listed in 1.1% of ESPN leagues) is firmly on the streaming radar if Banchero is out again with an ankle injury. He is able to collect statistics in many different categories. Okeke has scored 21 or more fantasy points in three of his last four games. — Moody

San Antonio Spurs at LA Clippers
10:30 p.m. ET, Crypto Arena, Los Angeles

line: Hair clipper -9
money line: Spurs (+310), Clipper (-400)
In total: 221 points

Questionable: Jacob Poeltl

Excluded: Romeo Langford, Devin Vassell, Luke Kennard

Best Bet: Under 221

The Clippers are the superior team. Los Angeles ranks 30th in points scored per 100 ball possessions, but is very strong defensively. In terms of allowed points per 100 possessions, the Clippers rank second. Records have gone down in seven of Los Angeles’ last eight home games. The Spurs have only surpassed 112 points in six games this season and rank 25th in points scored per 100 possessions. — Moody
