Online registration for the Crown Point Babe Ruth Spring/Summer Baseball League is open: For a limited time, CPBR is offering spring/summer baseball online registration at a reduced price for the month of January. The league accepts players from throughout Northwest Indiana. The fall league age groups are 13-15 and 16-18. As long as you were born in 2004 or later, you are eligible. Organizational Meeting of Adult Fastpit Baseball Managers on February 8th: The Crown Point Parks Department will hold an organizational meeting for adult fastpitch baseball managers on February 8 at 7:15 p.m. at the Crown Point Parks and Recreation Center (Bulldog Park) Building, 183 S. West, St., Crown Point. The league is open to adults over the age of 19 and games will be played Sunday through Saturday at the Sportsplex at Crown Point’s Legacy Fields from May.

Winter golf league “Tee Time on Your Time” starts in January: The Crown Point Parks Department has announced its Tee Time on Your Own Time coed indoor golf simulators for the Winter League, which will begin in January 2023. All golf games are played in the months of January, February and March. Players have the flexibility to select their “Tee Time on Your Time” on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday between 8am and 3pm at Net Par, 1005 Millennium Dr., Crown Point. Registration occurs during the three months of January, February and March to allow players the opportunity to play their 10 rounds of golf at their leisure. 2,000 volunteers needed for the BMW Championship 2023: The 2023 BMW Championship returns August 15-20, 2023 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields. With 2,000 seats to be filled at the penultimate event of the PGA TOUR FedExCup Playoffs, local golf fans now have a chance to register and be part of the story. Volunteers who are at least 18 years old and have committed to working a minimum of three shifts during the tournament week will carry out essential duties both on and off the ropes. The application deadline is December 19 at bmwchampionship.com/volunteers.

Gary Old Timers Banquet Wednesday: The 76th Annual Gary Old Timers Banquet is held at Avalon Manor, Merrillville on Wednesday. This year’s honoree is longtime West Side football, track and wrestling coach Gene Johnson. The event will be hosted by Jeff Blanzy, currently sports reporter for NBC 5 in Chicago, and will feature former Notre Dame and Chicago baseball star Jeff Samardzija. This year’s banquet will also feature Rocky LaPorte and his clean, blue-collar comedy style. The cost, including dinner, is $45 per person; $450 per table of 10 people.
