FORT WAYNE, Indiana (ADAMS) – Honor Flight Northeast Indiana (HFNEI) will add a fifth flight in 2023 to celebrate veterans who have received a Purple Heart medal.

HFNEI was recently selected as the 75th Annual Penny Pitch recipient by WOWO Radio and says proceeds from this fundraiser will be dedicated to a flight honoring this distinguished group of veterans.

Veterans who have received the Purple Heart have been wounded during their military service, some multiple times.

These veterans did everything to defend and protect our country and our freedoms.

Honor Flight Northeast Indiana President Cathy Berkshire states, “We have 4 traditional Honor Flights planned for 2023; 2 in the spring and 2 in the fall for veterans on our ever-expanding waitlist. This special funding, separate from our normal gifts and donations, will allow us to add that extra 5th flight for our Purple Heart Veterans. This flight will not displace deserving veterans currently on the waitlist or use donations earmarked for regular travel. We are grateful to WOWO for selecting Honor Flight as their 2023 penny pitch recipient and for the generosity of their audience, which allows us to honor these extraordinary heroes!”

Honor Flight representatives released the following:
