During Jeff Brohm’s weekly press briefing Monday morning, the Purdue head coach provided an update on several key players ahead of Saturday’s game against Indiana.

Devin Mockobee:

Purdue’s leading rusher was knocked out in the first quarter against Northwestern after suffering a hard hit while attempting to convert a 3rd and a 1st. Brohm said Mockobee was “offended” by the hit and was sidelined for the rest of the game. Mockobee is currently on concussion logs and his status for Saturday is uncertain. There will likely be more information later in the week as he progresses in the logs.

Gus Hartwig:

Purdue’s starting center, Gus Hartwig, is undergoing surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. Hartwig was rolled up and had to be carried off the field. On Saturday, Brohm said Hartwig had played through two broken hands this season and was the anchor of the offensive line. Josh Kaltenberger, relieving the injured Hartwig, starts against Indiana on Saturday. Brohm also said that true newcomer Malachi Preciado has traveled with the team and could also see action.

Branson Deen:

Defensive tackle Branson Deen is unlikely to play against Illinois after suffering a lower-body injury. Deen did not play in the Northwestern Game on Senior Day. The redshirt senior has been an anchor on the defensive line for the Boilermakers this season. In his place, James Prince Boyd Jr., Cole Brevard and Sulaiman Kpaka will see an increase in snaps.

Kyren Douglas:

Purdue linebacker Kieren Douglas was also injured in the Illinois win two weeks ago. Jeff Brohm said not many people would play with what Douglas has, although he didn’t specify what Douglas was dealing with in particular. The sixth-year linebacker’s presence was badly needed because of multiple injuries in that group. Semisi Fakasiieiki, OC Brothers and Jacob Wahlberg will see more action against Indiana.
