READI Grants $1.3 Million in Government Funding to Six Projects in Northwest Indiana | Federal State

(The Center Square) – Six infrastructure and human resource development projects in Northwest Indiana have received a total of $1.3 million in federal funding for a total project cost of nearly $11 million.

The projects, approved by the Northwest Indiana Forum in October, are among 34 Northwest regional projects to be funded by READI, a $500 million funding program created by the Legislature last year to attract talent to keep and put on in Indiana.

READI project grants must be matched by local public, private, or philanthropic funding.

A project recently approved by the Forum, the regional economic development organization for Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Jasper, Newton and Pulaski counties, was the Kingsbury Industrial Park Railroad Bridge Improvement Project by the LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission. It will provide more than $600,000 in READI funding for a total project cost of nearly $4.5 million.

“Our continued partnership with the Forum and IEDC has enabled our county to create a 1,000-acre logistics park served by two Class 1 railroads, as well as South Shore Freight and our park switch, JBC Rail,” said Randy Novak, President of the LaPorte Redevelopment Commission issued a statement. “The County Commissioners, Council and RDC members have all pulled together and continued to enable LaPorte County to thrive.”

Other funded projects in this round were:

Shirley Heinze Land Trust’s Ivanhoe South Community Development & Education Initiative funded with $977,000 in READI funding for a total project cost of nearly $1.2 million.

The Urban League of Northwest Indiana’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Business Training Program is funded with $282,000 in READI funds for a total cost of $412,000.
