Sycamores Sign Eight through Class 2023

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Indiana State Softball completed its undersigning class of 2023 and received national letters of intent from eight preseason players, the head coach Mike Pernicaro announced on Thursday. All eight in the incoming Sycamore class are from Hoosier State.

“This recruiting class fulfills some important requirements for our program. We’ve added more team speed along with some massive power bats in the lineup. Most importantly, these young women bring a winning mentality to our team as we add players who have competed and won at a high level, including state championships. That winning mentality is what we’re looking for to continue growing our program. We are excited to add these eight student-athletes and their families to the Sycamore softball family,” said Coach Perniciaro.

Kenzie Cornwell (Elwood, Indiana) attends Elwood High School, where she hit a .431 with 23 RBIs and 1.147 OPS last season. She played her travel ball for Indiana Magic Gold. Cornwell is an outfielder.

Sophie Esposito (Carmel, Ind.) is a graduate of Carmel High School. In 2022, she hit .485 with eight homers while scoring 35 runs for the Greyhounds. She was named. The MVP for the Carmel team and earned all-state honors for the second team. Esposito is an infielder.

Lauren Marsicek (Indianapolis, Indiana) joins the Sycamores from Roncalli High School. She helped the Royals to a 33-0 season in 2022 in which Roncalli won the Indiana Class 4A State Title. Her sister Mallory was a four-year starter for ISU Softball from 2018-2021. Marsicek is an infielder.

Brianna Marx (Elberfeld, Indiana) attends Tecumseh High School where she achieved an OPS 0.354 of 1.014 in 2022. She helped her team finish second, scoring 41 runs while driving in 25. Marx is an infielder.

Abby Robakowski (South Bend, Indiana) comes from New Prairie High School, where she hit .451 in 29 carries with seven homers in 2022. She received MVP honors for the Northern Indiana Conference and was named Third Team All-State. Robakowski is a catcher/infielder.

Peyton Simmons (Terre Haute, Indiana) attends Terre Haute South High School, where she hit .396 with eight home runs in 2022. She was named All-Conference in 2021 and 2022. Simmons is an infielder.

Annie Wagoner (Bedford, Indiana) attends Bedford North Lawrence High School, where she had a 1.31 ERA in 2022 with 198 strikeouts in 150 innings. She was named First Team All-State and has helped lead her school back-to-back in section and regional championships.

Haley Webb (Fort Wayne, Indiana) comes from Columbia City High School, where she attended. .268 with three homers and 12 RBIs. Webb played behind the plate and finished 2022 with a .986 field stake. During Webb’s junior season, she was named First Team All-Conference Catcher as well as NE8 Catcher of the Year.
