The Indiana Pacers reportedly want to keep Myles Turner but are willing to trade Buddy Hield

The Indiana Pacers are a team that many people expected to rebuild this year, but they are currently in a playoff position as the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference under Tyrese Haliburton.

Many thought the Indiana Pacers would move their veteran players like Buddy Hield and Myles Turner before the trade deadline. So far, however, no move has taken place.

A recent report by Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus revealed the Indiana Pacers’ plans for both players as we near the close of trading. The report stated that Buddy Hield was “available” but the team was interested in keeping Myles Turner.

Indiana could still try to make a trade, but the Pacers are focused on making the playoffs.

“You could still trade with Buddy [Hield]; He’s been available since they had him,” said another Eastern Conference executive, “but they don’t want to refuel and I’ve heard they’re trying to extend Myles.”

It’s easy to see why the Indiana Pacers want to keep Myles Turner: He’s currently a career year averaging 16.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 2.3 BPG and 37.9% from Beyond the Arc. However, Myles Turner has already turned down some of the Pacers’ contract extension offers, and it’s unclear if the Pacers’ stance on trading him will change if he continues to do so.

Although Buddy Hield is a good player right now, there are some good reasons for the Indiana Pacers to move him. He’s poor defensively and a contract change could give the team a pay cut. However, it’s probably in their interest to keep him unless an amazing offer comes along as he fits well with Tyrese Haliburton in backcourt.

The Indiana Pacers could be good in the future

While the Indiana Pacers are not currently a contender for the championship, they may be in the future. Tyrese Haliburton has previously hinted that the team could resemble the Memphis Grizzlies in the future.

“I think the gains that we will see in the next 2-3 years are from today. It’s a bit like MEM. They have a young group of guys who learn from each other and work every day and now they are one of the best teams in the league. That’s what we’re trying to achieve.”

The team has a lot of young talent and they could end up being a special group if things go well for them in the future. In terms of developing their young players it is important to be competitive in the now as they will win from the veterans in the squad.

Hopefully we’ll see the Indiana Pacers continue to thrive. They have an elite franchise player in Tyrese Haliburton, and if they draft well, they could be a contender for the Eastern Conference in the future.
