Boise State New Mexico Forecast, Selection

The Boise State Broncos take on the New Mexico Lobos. Check out our College Basketball Odds Series for our prediction and selection for Boise State New Mexico. Find out how to see Boise State New Mexico.

This game should be pretty compelling. It’s 15-4 Boise State, 5-1 in the Mountain West Conference, versus 17-2 New Mexico, 4-2 in the MWC. Both teams would be in the NCAA tournament if the selection show took place today. Both teams have had a great season and are in the hunt for a conference championship.

Boise State is tied 5-1 with San Diego State for conference lead. New Mexico is fourth in the Mountain West with Utah State a half game behind Nevada, which is 5-2 in third place. The top four teams at Mountain West will compete frequently over the next seven weeks leading up to the Mountain West tournament in Las Vegas. This is one of those battles. Buckle up for a wild ride at The Pit in Albuquerque.

Why Boise State Might Cover the Spread

This Boise State team flies. Coach Leon Rice did a fantastic job with Boise State last season, and he’s putting the pieces together again this season. Boise State has won every one of its last five games, but the last four wins have been particularly impressive. BSU has won its last four games by at least 15 points. The average win margin in these four games is just over 18.2 points. Boise State has truly become a wrecking ball, delivering solid offensive performances and great defensive efforts. Boise State has not conceded more than 68 points in a game since Dec. 28 against Nevada, which coincidentally was the last time Boise State has lost and the only time the Broncos have lost a game at Mountain West this season . If Boise State can hold New Mexico to no more than 68 points, the Broncos will love their odds since UNM has such a strong and capable offense. BSU holding New Mexico anywhere under 70 points in The Pit would be considered a win for the Broncos, win or lose.

Why New Mexico could cover the spread

The lobos wobbled for a week. They were 14-0. Then for a week they played objectively bad basketball against Wyoming (a game they escaped from), Fresno State and UNLV. They lost their first two games of the season and everyone wondered if the perfect start to the season was a mirage. New Mexico was the last undefeated team in college basketball that season. The Lobos were punched in the mouth by Mountain West opponents. They had to show they were resilient and capable enough to fight back and stay in the top league of the conference. They proved that in the last few games. They won in San Diego, went to Viejas Arena and beat the San Diego State Aztecs. This game really seemed to get UNM back on track. When there was doubt about the Lobos, they went ahead and hammered San Jose State by 20 points earlier this week. The compilation of back-to-back strong games shows that New Mexico has bounced back from those early January stumbling blocks.

Definitive Boise State-New Mexico Prediction & Selection

This should be a great game, and if you stay away from it, it makes perfect sense. However, with New Mexico playing very well and being at home, the Lobos figure will overtake a Boise State team that has yet to lose in 2023 and is likely due for a comedown game. Take the lobos.

Final Boise State-New Mexico Prediction & Selection: New Mexico -2.5
