Grand Rio | Discover Taos

Washing down a sandwich with a cold beer on the tailgate of his truck and gazing at the Milky Way lying low over the rugged gorges carved out of the volcanic rock of the Taos Pueblo – the murmur of a steady river making its way to the Gulf below of Mexico — John Nichols of Taos, author of The Milagro Beanfield War and 18 other books, describes the conclusion of a perfect day of fly fishing on the Rio Grande.

A seasoned hunter, hill hiker, and fly fisherman, Nichols knows the local alpine tundra and the creeks and rivers of New Mexico like the back of his hand — and he has a fishing tale or two to tell, as does longtime friend and fly-fishing mentor Taylor Streit, Founder of Taos Fly Shop established in 1980 to teach the art of fly fishing.
